Beach Finds w/ CTX 3030 - Aug. thru Nov. 2012

I've only had my detector for a few months now but thought I throw up a pic or two of what I have accumulated over this short period of time. Mind you, I go out for a few hours (weather permitting and when low tide is at it's best) and hit as close to the surf as I can. I've found all clad :( and it totals around $23.00, some small silver jewelry (see the cute little tiger pendant with emerald eyes, he's a fave of mine), bullets, etc. I added another pic which I already posted earlier of the 14k gold cross which made my entire day :)

Settings:

I basically used the stock "Beach Mode" turned on Saltwater Mode, took the auto sensitivity off manual and bumped it up as high as I could, right around 28-29 was stable enough with very little chatter, [note] high sensitivity causes TID to fluctuate a bit which I can live with. I made not have found that 14k cross with the stock settings, I believe by bumping up the sensitivity so high enabled me to dig up that sucker at 9" deep. I also enable Ferrous-Coin in the Target Separation, that also seems to make the machine more stable for me.

I would love to hear what others set their ctx's at for the beach, or give me suggestions on what I can do, maybe my settings could be a lot better, I just don't know.

All the clad was cleaned today in my new tumbler so I had to take a pretty picture of it before it goes into the change jar, I'm putting all this change towards the purchase of some new Gray Ghost headphones. I purchased a Garrett pinpointer and Lesche Sampson 18" digger so fields, parks, old properties, and swimming holes (under water) are my next ventures, I will hopefully find the really old valuable stuff next...wish me luck and all the luck to you my friends. HH

Thank you.

Those are some nice finds. Too bad you are not over here on the West Coast, so we could do some hunting together. I really love this new CTX 3030 and am running about the same settings that you are. I got down here last week and have not been on the beach much yet, but looking forward to finding some of that good stuff also. Thanks for sharing your finds. I hope to be able to put some on soon.

Dadzjunk, I would be thrilled to take you up on your offer, too bad many miles are in between. I'm thinking about putting in a request for a hunting partner soon. Good luck to you and may you find that surprise chunk of gold on your beach. :)

I used about the exact setting you did with good success. I used ground coin, seemed more stable but if that works for you swing on! Setting are not as important as just getting your coil over it. The CTX will find it! :minelab::thumbup:

I think you're doing great. As far as settings I would stick with Beach Mode and the salt water mode for starters in the wet salt sand and water. On the dry you could try other things and see what works. The gold cross is an indication you are doing something right.

I tend to break the beach up into areas. The wet sand at the surfs edge is a good start but I like to work the wet sand in a W formation that is up and down the beach from the water up to the dry. Basically you are looking for coin pockets or lines. Its amazing but the wave action will concentrate the coins typically in a line parallel to the waters edge. You just don't know exactly where that line is till you "cut" it with your search pattern. When you hit it you need to grid it out in some manner and you can fill your pouch quick. Also keep an eye out for concentrations of lead as gold will follow.

Targets also tend to be concentrated at beach access points all the way straight down to the water line and then the people fan out from there. I like to work the blanket line just to check. If that doesn't pan out then the wet sand W's pattern. Working in front of Hotels may also up the finds. You might try rejecting zinc pennies as they take time away from other targets

Finally and most importantly is to get in the water. More jewellery "gold" is lost in the water than on the beach.

Thank you for that great tip, I will do the "W" pattern as you mentioned. I would love to go deeper in the salt water but I really find that getting hit by wave is extremely frustrating, not to mention I have a scoop that has a small mouth (standard one from Kellyco), I want to invest in the T-Rex scoop which has an insanely wide mouth and long handle but don't have funds for that right now.

Thanks again :)

Yes working the surf can be a challenge. You might give it a try on some of the calmer summer days. You can also try back bay areas (Indian River?) which have less wave action. I'm assuming you are in Florida by your Forum name. Also freshwater lakes and swimming areas are great and have less waves. Another advantage for freshwater areas is the stuff stays where dropped and doesn't get moved around like a salt water beach.

A higher end strong and sturdy scoop will also be an asset. A strong scoop will serve as a stabilizer when hunting in heavy surf. I also have used some lead diving weights on a belt. I know some guys use quite a lot of weight and you look out at them and there not getting thrown around and at first don't know why. Of course with weight belts you need to be careful and have a quick release belt. Divers go by a right hand release on the quick release I believe.
