yesterday i went to a treasure coast beach, there was another detectorist working the south end of the beach so i went to the north end to stay out of his way and give him the first come first choice of the area.after a few minutes i started digging some coins it was not long before this individual comes walking past me at a good clip,he stopped about a 100 feet in front of me and started detecting again going the same way i was.i could not believe what i had just seen.detectors as a rule are a good bunch of people who enjoy the hobby and each other,i guess their is always one who can not stand to see someone else digging while they are not.guys and girls lets keep detecting and hope we do not find to many of those people it kinds of ruins your day.

I look at it this way. The beach is waaay too big for one person. Personally I don't care if you walk along beside me. But that's just me.

i had that hapen to me to and i hate those guys what i do its get on top of them and jam their detector

What I hate is when I let myself get sucked into conversation with one, while their hunting partner scoots round collecting all the goodies.

lol lol i used to see this stuff go on all the time..i used to just mine my own business and still pick up coins and rings they would miss cause they were in a hurry and getting greedy thinking they were getting in front of me cause they saw me digging targets..if you really wanna have a good laugh when you see guys like this out there, just pretend your digging stuff and see how fast they come around you then just walk off and watch them...

i had guy come with in 4 feet from me (with the same MD excal) and pretend that he does not hear the nois in his headphone ... he know who i'm talking about he is on this forum

I hit a beach a week or two back and when i got there there we 2 hunters gridding. So i started and headed N since they were working the total beach. They were flying with their coils about 6 inches off the deck. I dug targets and continued to watch them. Once they left i went over and started doing the same area..... from what i found they must not of been hunting for clad and must have been hunting recent drops. Because i did OK even behind them. I try to stay out of others way but when there are 2 or 3 of them and each seems to take a large portion of the beach. Kind of hard to move to another beach when you drive a couple of hours to get there so i just try and find my little spot.

There was a real good answer by someone on the forums awhile back about this.

"He was detecting the beach and a woman kept detecting near him and pestering him. He decided to turn the tables on her. He took a short break then decided to follow her and detect in exactly the same places she did. What she didn't know is that in his pocket he kept an old pocket watch and a long gold chain.

When he got to one of the old holes she dug he passed his detector over it and pretended like he found something. Removing the "plant item" from his pocket he dug the hole and proudly held up his find for everyone, including this woman to see. He kept following her and did this a few more times. Every time he found something she just looked over and was mighty ticked off.

Shortly after that she decided to leave and he had the beach to himself. She never bothered him again after that day."

I liked that story so much that to this day I keep some "plant items" along with junk in my pouch when detecting.

You really have to tell people that get THAT close this '. I know that I don't own the beach but you are really on top of the area I'm working would you mind giving me a little space. I had to say this to a woman who was no more then 5 feet away from me when I was on a roll. She said that she was sorry and that she was new to the hobby and I said that's cool and then she was now educated on want not to do. If I'm working low I don't have a problem with you working high and I will always wish them luck. I felt a little bad telling her cause by nature I'm very mellow but people have to use a little common sense too. Sometimes the @&%^$# gold fever is not a good thing and it makes people do things that they might not do under normal situations. :thumbu

I totally DISAGREE with you on this subject. I personally don't even think about it if another detectorist is out there. I go whereever I want and detect. I don't get right up against someone but just because one person is at one side of the beach where I enter etc do I feel I have to go to the other end. It's a public beach and I honesty don't give it a thought. I go where ever I want to go and I feel it is NOT wrong or disrespectful etc.

I have to chime in on this topic. It has to do with respecting other peoples space. I only hunt the beach here in New England after summer is over. I believe a person has a right to enjoy their day at the beach with out someone swinging a coil and carrying a 4 foot scoop over their shoulder. I know some hunt all summer long and that's fine with me, we are all different. BUT if I turn around and see someone ten feet from me when the beach is a mile long that goes up my A**. One year I was at the beach and I was the only one within 2 miles in an empty parking lot, when I returned to put my detector away there was a car parked so close to me I couldn't open my door. Four thousand empty spaces and they had to squeeze me. UNBELIEVABLE
