Beach coil:ukflag:

I am thinking of upgrading my well worn SE Pro for a 3030. Nearly all of my detecting is done on beaches as there are nearly 400 beaches within about 1.5 hours drive, which coil would be the best to use down the beach, it needs to be very solidly built similar to the coil on my Detector Pro Wader which has been knocked about on rocks for 5 years now with no problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jan-----The only large coil (at this time) for the CTX is the 17" Minelab coil.----It's a good, solid built coil but the buggar is heavy.----It would make a good beach coil but I would advise using a bungy with it.----I like the 11" stock coil really well to.

Jan,
You mean like the standard 11" coil it comes with?

Minelab makes the 6", the 11" and the 17" for the 3030. (All come with coil covers.)

One thing to note with the 3030 is that because there is processing done in the coils, there is currently only one 'third-party' accessory coil available.
(That would be the 10x5" "Joey" coil from CoilTek.)

Thanks trojdor, I have just found that coil i the advert at the top of the 3030 web page, I think it would be perfect for my type of detecting, most of my detecting is done on mixed beaches with a lot of rocky areas, very little is done on pure sand.

I use all three coils. The 6" is great in rocks and goes deep for its size. I use the 11" most of the time when in the water. I have used the 17" on the dry and wet sand in Florida with a bungee and it worked great. I have also used the 17" in the water but find the "drag" from its size is considerable. You might use the 17" in the water for a few hours. One concern I have on the 17" is the mounting ears are the same thickness as the 6" and 11" coils and I think should have been beefed up for the 17" which is much heavier. I expect these ears will break off on the 17" if one were to bang it into to many rocks. I also have an Excal and the mounting ears on its coil are much thicker and much stronger. You might think about an Excal as an alternative but they are really best in the water as they are heavy. I run mine on a straight shaft with a bungee.
