Beach Coil Size

botics

New member
I am heading up to North Florida / Gulf of Mexico beaches and will be taking the CTX 3030 and usually take the 6" coil with me. This time I am thinking about the using the 17" coil for beach hunting... Only fear is I may be digging deeper trash.

Any suggestions?

That could happen I suppose I know there at least a couple Beach Hunters on here that use the 17 inch a lot if not exclusively. it seems like using a six inch coil at a beach is the exact opposite of overkill. You will cover three or four times the ground with a 17 inch, and it's purely up to you if you want to dig deeper signals anyhow. Obviously I understand the beaches really trashy you want to use a six inch coil.

In the water with a 17, to much drag....recommend 17 for the dry/wetsand and smaller for in the water.

I use the 17'' for the beach and it you will cover a lot of ground with it. I will tell you that it is considerably heavier than the stock coil, your arm will feel it after fifteen minutes or so but you'll get use to it. I have noticed that the targets are deeper and you will dig deeper junk as well if you dig everything. The pin pointing took a little practice but throw a quarter down on the beach and practice pinpointing on it, you'll quickly see where that little sweet spot is on the coil. I also use the 17'' in waste deep water, the drag is not as bad as one would think.

I will never use the stock coil again on the beach.

Thank you all.. I will give the 17" coil a shot this time. I just bought the Minelab Pro Swing 45 - and so far from just setting it up and testing it is seems pretty comfotable. Last time I used the 6" coil besides finding lots of trash I found a bunch of .50 cal bulletts from WWII which were 6-8 inches down in the sand.

I would think the 17" would be great on the beach!!

Depends on trash level. If the level is low grab the 17"! Covers much more area with each swing.

Went with the large coil and found this near on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. I have no idea what it is.. Can anyone help me out?
