Be Careful What You Throw In The Scrap Bucket

I post mostly on the P.A.T.H. forum but read the E-Trac forum daily. This forum has been a huge help in learning my machine. I found this during a club hunt at a local park last year. Thinking it was just an old tool tag I didn't pay much attention to it at the time but because there was some writing on it I threw it in the tumbler yesterday with my found pennies to get a better look at it. After cleaning I still thought it was a tool tag but before scrapping it I checked out the word Goetz on the internet. Turns out it is a telephone token used in the Chicago area to make calls on pay phones. The Goetz tokens were made between 1907 and 1944. There are a large number of different telephone tokens across the U.S. and they are highly collectible. This token is the same diameter as a nickel but thinner. The slots that run across this token are original to it but the short matching indentations on both sides are where someone tried to cut it. It pays to double check your junk.[attachment 254585 DSC00154goetz.jpg][attachment 254586 DSC00155goetz.jpg]

That's a great find and a nice historical item, I like to find out the history behind those long forgotten items. Thanks for sharing (Plus they can be valuable)!
