Be Careful What You Throw In The Scrap Bucket

I found this during the club hunt at Lake Storey. Thinking it was just an old tool tag I didn't pay much attention to it at the time but because there was some writing on it I threw it in the tumbler yesterday with my found pennies to get a better look at it. After cleaning I still thought it was a tool tag but before scrapping it I checked out the word Goetz on the internet. Turns out it is a telephone token used in the Chicago area to make calls on pay phones. The Goetz tokens were made between 1907 and 1944. There are a large number of different telephone tokens and they are highly collectible. This token is the same diameter as a nickel but thinner. The slots that run across this token are original to it but the short matching indentations on both sides are where someone tried to cut it. It pays to double check your junk.[attachment 254572 DSC00154goetz.jpg][attachment 254573 DSC00155goetz.jpg]

Thanks for the info Daryl, I didn't know there were tokens for phones.

That is cool. Good thing you checked it out before it went to the trash. Thanks for sharing! HH, Nancy
