I saw a local park was being renovated. It used to have 4 ball parks and tot lot. Now it's all gone within days for a new planned park. This park was only 40 years old so I figured I could get lucky and hit some deep Rosies and Washingstons? I set the etrac up for dimes and above. I figured I would have to do some extreme cherry picking. To my surprise I was digging a lot of clad dimes and quarters at 6 inches deep. So I was recovering my targets fast with little care. Still making a flap though.. After all I had about 15 quarters and 20 clad dimes in my pouch in just about 1.5 hours of digging. So I get another quarter hit at 6 to 8 inches. I quickly dig down in the ground that's like concrete. I had to almost chip away at the soil. Then out of no where I flipped out a quarter. From 8 inches down it glowed as most silver does. I figured it was a Washington. I always say to myself every time I see silver " I hope I didn't scratch it!" So I pulled it from the hole. Well you can see what it was. You can also see that I scratched it too. I dug about 15 more targets before it got dark. I recovered each target like I was a Surgeon but no more silver. I'm waiting for a good rain so I can go back.

The scratch sucks, but I have done MUCH worse to coins. It's still a nice coin!

You said the park was 40 years old, but have you looked at older maps to see if anything was there before the park?

scratch or no scratch, that is a beautiful coin. I have dug several seated dimes, but only ONE seated quarter in 5 yrs....CONGRATS

Great Coin!!!!

Very nice. Scratches happen. Dirts getting hard, need a little rain to help with digging and depth.

yeah ya just never know when it's time to be carefull,,, still a great find HH

This park is not close to the original 1850's town at all. But I will do some investigation on what was there before. Thanks.

I have to say that this is my first Seated Quarter in almost 30 years of hunting. At this rate I'll dig up a gold coin in about 640 years. Really looking forward to that!

Great find khouse, that is a very nice coin, shame about the scratch, but we all have done that in the excitment of the moment.

I remember the first coin I scratched. It was a Merc. That was within the first two weeks of starting this hobby about 30 years ago. I wasn't happy then either. I still have the dime...

Outstanding coin - congrats ! :beers:

Congrats on the really nice seated. Scratch or not, it is a nice coin.
