Bda Hunter, what beaches do you hunt on the Island?

BEACH HUNTER

New member
I WAS THERE IN SEPT BUT DID NOT DETECT. I WAS NOT SURE OF WHICH BEACHES ALLOWED IT. I PLAN ON GOING BACK TO BERMUDA AS SOON AS POSS. I WOULD LIKE TO DO SOME WATER HUNTING THERE. HAVE YOU HUNTED TOBACCO BAY BEACH IN ST. GEORGE?? DO YOU NEED ANY TYPE OF PERMIT TO HUNT SOME BEACHES?? ANY INFO YOU COULD OFFER WOULD BE GREAT. MUCH THANKS!!!

Hey Beach Hunter:
I live in the west end of the island, Somerset so I have only hunted in these areas so far. I think the whole island is fair game below the high water mark. I've tried to get an official answer on metal detecting but no one seems to know except that you need a license to dive historic wrecks. Teddy Tucker cleaned up on treasure here in the 60's and 70's so they enacted some controls on shipwrecks but that seems to be all. I have yet to meet another detectorist besides my MD buddy Jim and we started hunting at the same time so the answer to your question is.
1) The island is largely unhunted to my knowledge, at least recently
2) There don't seem to be any restrictions on metal detecting here, at least not officially ( I wouldn't hunt at the historic Royal Naval Dockyard just as a courteousy, ditto for Ft. St. Catherines)
3) Bermuda is pretty laissez-faire to any sort of activity so long as you are polite and respectful
4) Let me know when you are coming to Bermuda and I will try to hunt with you and show you around
