BBS vs tornado coil

Eric

New member
Does the Tornado coil has a much better performance compared with the older BBS coil?

Thanks, Eric.

Eric, I'm currently using one on the Excal 1000. I just had it installed recently, by Minelab. I can say for sure that it slices through the water easier, but am not convinced of superior depth and sensitivity yet. I have not used it enough to be fully convinced of it's superiority. Time will tell, but I feel there could be some performance gains.

Eric,

I have only used the 10 inch Tornado coil on the Elite and the GT while the 10 inch BBS on some of my older Sovereigns. I never cared for the BBS coil and always used the 8 inch coinsearch and the S-12 of Sun Rays on my older Sovereigns and felt they did better over all, in fact the 8 inch coinsearch could get deeper than the 10 inch BBS could for me. I was going to change my 10 inch Tornado coil on my Elite when I got it, but didn't and found it seem to work much better than the BBS coils did and when I got my GT I never thought of changing it as it work so good for me. My own opinion is I feel for one thing the Tornado coil is lighter and seems to be more sensitive too than the BBS I have tried.
Some of this I feel too has to do with how much you really know your Sovereign too, if you are well experienced with it I think you will see a difference, if you are new to the Sovereign you may not see much difference.

Rick.....
Since the Tornado coils have come out with the Elite, some have said that they worked better than BBS, and others said they could see no difference between the two other than the weight.

I think some of this may have to do with the individual coils. No two are exactly the same , so it may depend on exactly which two coils (by serial number) are being compared.

Seems like from following the forum here for years that you could get a super good coil or a real dog by luck of the draw. Comparing a dozen of each would probably be more definitive in deciding which is better on the average, but unless you hand picked a coil you would still be taking pot luck.

For your answers.... I think I will just stick with the stock BBS coil for now untill I have mastered the XS2. I also have a 12.5 coil on the way to me.

HH, Eric.
