BBS TORNADO COILS FOR THE XS Question...

Hi, again I'm quite pleased with the older Sovereign XS I recently purchased on ebay. It came with a more recent 1000 BBS coil and really goes deep, especially in all-metal!

This detector is a keeper for sure and I plan on purchasing accessory coils for it. The 15 inch WOT and Joey coils are on my list. But I am also thinking about the newer Minelab 8 & 10 inch BBS Slimline Tornado coils? I read they can be used with any Sovereign.

My question is this: The new Tornado coils have some sort of built in/on-board signal amplifier? Or I guess something like that? That makes me believe those coils will somehow boost target signals, hence giving more depth? Is this true? If so, then they should detect even deeper than the older style BBS coils on my older XS?

Does anyone know more about this or use the Tornado coils on their XS? What do you think? Thanks, CC.

All coils designed for the Sov have the Preamps in them. There are different versions of the preamp. So I would think that the newer versions should be better than the older versions. I have used the newer Tornado Coil from my Sov GT on my older Sov XS2 and it worked fine.

Can you use the Tornado coils on the Excal (via hardwire or waterproof connector) and if so, are they thinner and lighter than the factory Excal coils? Thanks, Ray.

Yes the Tornado coils are thinner and lighter than the older BBS coils. But not by a whole lot. I guess enough that you can tell the difference.

Hi Ray, Yes, you can use the new TORNADO SLIMLINE Coils on both types of EXCALS'! I have a new SLIMLINE TORNADO Coil on TWO of my THREE EXCALS', one on the newer version; and one on the older version
that originally had a SEASEARCH Coil on it. As a matter of fact, I am selling the Older Version with a relatively new 10" TORNADO SLIMLINE Coil on it. Hope this helps, hh, Les Robinson

Hi Les, how much are you asking for your older Excalibur with Tornado coil? What is its condition? Is the coil hardwired? Does this Excalibur have red knob tops and headphone? Thanks, Chris.
