Battery voltage for the AT ???

I recently had to send my AT back for some minor tune-up. When I got it back it was loaded with some not for commercial labled Energizer 1.5 volt batteries. These batteries were used on 5 hunts averaging 3+ hours each.I immediatly noticed my AT reading much stronger and with very specfic VDI's, which I initialy attributed to the tune-up. However after going back to my 1.2 volt rechargebles, I noticed it was not hitting as strong and the VDI's were more spordic. I'm no electronics expert but it does seem to me like a system designed for 6 volts would struggle somewhat if the voltage is reduced by 1.2 volts. Am I completely off base here as far as my thoughts? I'm actually going to try another set of the 1.5 to see if I can detect the same difference.

I'm sure it doesn't run at 6 volts. It has to be regulated down to probably 4 or 5 volts. I buy alkalines so cheap that I don't mess with rechargeables.

There really shouldn't be a difference in operation with either rechargeable or alkaline batteries as long is the battery indicater is showing at least 2 bars.
