Battery Tip for the E-Trac

Steve from Ohio

New member
I've been using the E-Trac quite a bit lately even though it has been pretty cold out. As long as there is no snow, I'm going out!

I recently bought some 2650 MAH AA NIMH Duracell rechargeable batteries from Best Buy. The 4 pack were on sale........for $9.95 each. $19.90 for 8.

I have found that these batteries offer twice the time of the factory NIMH battery pack.

An added bonus is that I have saved quite a bit from having to get another NIMH factory pack.

I can get about 4 hours out of the factory pack (less with the back light on) and with the Duracell rechargeable batteries I can get almost 9 hours before having to recharge even with the back light on. I figure my cost is $16.50 for the AA battery pack and $19.90 for the batteries for a total of $36.40 for twice the time and almost a third the cost of the factory NIMH pack.

So if you are getting tired of the short time the factory pack gives you, try the Duracell 2650's. Well worth it in my opinion.

Steve,
HOw long have you had the etrac and how does it compare to other machines you have used?
Don

Awesome tip Steve -- thanks.....I bought that cool Energizer rapid charger there with the fan in it.....I like it a lot....I bought two. I'll have to go back this weekend for the Duracell deal.

Best, Erik

E-Trac is built to out perform the Explorer.......I have the Explorer (XS, XS, & SE) as well as the new E-Trac.....I'd go with the E-Trac and get Andy's new book and you'll be set! This is the leading edge!

Hi Don.

I've had the E-Trac now for almost two weeks and I have about 30 hours on it.

I have owned 14 detectors in the last 25 years. Some like the White's Eagle Spectrum and the Fisher 1280X , I kept for quite a long time. They were and still are great machines. I've owned most major brands of detectors and I can say that Minelab, right now, is the cutting edge of detector technology. If you look up and down their line of detectors, every one is a winner.

I've owned an Explorer SE (recently sold) and I also have an Excalibur 800.

The E- Trac is so far to me, the best machine I've ever used for the way I hunt on dry land. Faster than the Explorer, deeper than any of the White's I've owned, including the DFX, MXT and the Spectrum. More stable than a Fisher F-70 and deeper too although I do like the F-70 a lot.

I recently dug a Palmolive soap token with the E-Trac at a tad over 15 inches. I've never dug anything that deep with any other machine. The area I found it was heavily hit by me and several others in the past few years. I found that and several silver quarters, a barber dime, and a large cent. None of the White machines were able to find them. I bet though the Explorer or the Excalibur would have found them but I did not use them in that area. The area has been heavily pounded by many detectors in the last few years by many people. The E-Trac found them, and the others did not.

The E-Trac has better balance than the Explorer. I prefer the screen layout of the E-Trac over the Explorer. I agree with Eric that the E-Trac will out perform the Explorer and any other machine out today but only when it is learned to a point of being part of you just as the Explorer owners have been doing for the last few years. Give us about 6 months and watch what we find!!!!

Here's a pic of my two Minelabs. The Excalibur is going to be modified with a Florida straight shaft and is going to get new batteries and a pair of waterproof Grey Ghosts. They are the only two machines I have right now. I doubt I will need anything else for the foreseeable future.

just got 24 piece of 2600 NIMH for $33.00 from all battery.com The really nice charger was $22.00. Definitely saved some money on this site. check it out!

If you are only getting 4hours out of your Minelab batteries, i would ring Minelab. The handbook says they should be good for 16 Hours. Check that when the headphones are plugged in that the speaker is not still operating as well, as this can drain the batteries a a much faster rate. I have read this somewhere else, and it seems there was a batch that had a problem with the headphone socket in the Detector. Hope this helps, Bob
