battery run time on the 70

Neil

Well-known member
How much run time is everyone getting with just one segment left on their 70s? After hunting about 30mins last night, my battery indicator went from two to one segment and I got about one and a half hours more hunt time before it started with the low battery warning every minute or so. That was on alkaline batteries.

Duracell 2500 MaH, getting about 23ish hours per charge running in all metal mode without headphones, it beeps a lot. I have a set of Alkalines as a backup. Gotta watch those Alkalines or any batterie, I had a set of batteries that had small nipples on the ends, occasionally when I set the detector down, it would jar the batteries and the detector shut down on me, thought I had a serious problem. I'm on my 35th hour with Energeizers and still reading full.

Hi Guys,

I have 2 sets of eneloop 2000mAh. nmh batteries and chargers thet sell here in Australia for $30 with 4 batteries and charger. They a composition of alkaline and nmh. They are fully charged in the pack when you buy them and will last in storage 6 months with 90%capacity after a year 85%. Ihave been putting them back on charge for as many hours as i have been using them or you can let them run down and charge for 16 hours the charger will cut off at that point. They can be charged over 1000 times or more. The eneloop battery is more powerfull than dry cell batteries. An example eneloop batteries consumption in a digital camera 514 sanyo alkaline maganese 117. And all with no memory effect and low temperature electrical discharge performance.

Regards Pinpointa down under in oz.

Slooow & Looow to get the doe.

I guess I worded that wrong. I had already put a bunch of hours on the duracells before last nights hunt, was just explaining that after I got into a single segment on the battery icon the batteries ran out juice rather quickly. That was my first set in this 70 and was wondering if that sounded right.

Thanks Mike,

I just charged up some energizer nimh 2300s that I have so they should work well.
I did get alot of run time overall out of the batteries, it was the single segment time on the battery icon I was wondering about. So I could approximate how long I have left to hunt once it gets there.

I use headphones and had the 70 in beach mode with tracking on, hunting along the high tide line at the ocean. Depth is average with the elliptical coil here, next time Im trying the stock concentric coil.

I use mine in prospect mode and although I get my fair share of junk in this mode it has no problem with depth and runs very stable for me. I find with the stock coil the closer you get towards the ocean I have to turn the sensitivity down a bit. The stock coil works well in dry sand no complaints there. I like the Elliptical coil for its gold finding abilities and can sniff out a small object nicely. To tell you the truth I haven't even used beach mode.
Cheers!

I have to switch over to beach mode in the wet sand or else the 70 falses alot. I will try the prospecting mode and see how it runs in the wet sand. I have to keep my sens between 15 and 20 depending on how close I am to the waves, in beach mode with the eliptical coil. It seems like it performs better with tracking on in the wet sand also.

forgot to mention that, when I notice the single battery bar, it is time to get some fresh batteries soon if you are using rechargeables. I do not always notice the battery level right away but seems like I might get 20-30 minutes when it hits the single bar. HH, Mike

I personally love the 5x10 HF on the beach until I get to the wet salty sand. The coil definitely has a bit of depth as well as sensitivity for the small stuff...I have picked up the smallest bits of ally at depths of 5-6+" which is bloody impressive esp noting that the prospect mode strongly detects the stuff when the all metal is silent on them.

However, I could never get the XT-70 to settle enough in the wet stuff and get a decent depth. I have been mastering my ExpII for the beach lately and found that it is much more stable with alot of depth in the wet stuff. There is definitely something to be said about multi-freq over single freq machines and saltwater. My ExpII just purrs away in the wet sand allowing me to concentrate on digging.

I still love my XT-70 but the ExpII is getting more swing time right now.

cheers...Keith

Yeah the Explorer and Sov both have fantastic depth at the beach and keep their sensitivity in wet sand. My last two times out Ive used my Sov XS with/coinsearch coil.
