BATTERY QUESTION ?

Personally, I like the NiMH cells due to the fact that they can be recharged over and over again. Over 1000 times, some say. NiMH cells can be topped-off at any time without affecting the battery life. And, without any "memory" effect. In order to achieve optimum performance from NiCd batteries, they must be fully discharged before recharging. If you don't, they may develop what some refer to as memory. Battery experts say that there is no such thing as memory. Whether you call it memory or simply "reversal effect", the end result is shorter run-times.

On the downside, I try to charge my cells at night, before detecting the next day. I do this because NiMH batteries have a much higher self-discharge rate (in an used state) compared to NiCd cells. For example, when your detector is turned off, a NiMH battery can discharge itself nearly twice as quickly as a NiCAD battery, typically within one week or two. But if you take everything into consideration, for metal detectors, I think the NiMH cells provide the best performance of all rechargeables. JMHO HH Randy
