Battery question... How do you know....

when the batteries are low? I bought the best batteries for the excal (as recommended) and it seems I only have about 4 hours out. Now my excal is acting "goofy".

wonder if its my batteries... how do you tell with the excal if the batteries are running low.

thanks..
Pappy

The death squeal occurs, when the batteries are discharging. It will just all of sudden give a loud burst of sound through the headphones, intermittently. It will continue to occur more often, until it shuts down entirely and will not run. I had very poor luck using my alkaline pack and the batteries did not last very long. Came to find out, it had a hairline crack, allowing water to weep into the battery case and causing premature battery failure. I still use the nicad pack, but am on my 3rd now. Thank goodness for warranty!

If you are using a alkaline pack with 8 NiMH batteries in it, then it will not last very long at all. If you are using the alkaline pack with 8 good alkaline batteries you should get longer time than that. Now if this is the Minelab rechargeable pod then they too should go longer then that and you pod may have to be sent in to be checked out.
Now why the 8 NiMH will not work long is there is not enough voltage as these are only 1.2 volts apiece and you need the full 12 volts the 8 alkaline will give you or the factory rechargeable pack with the 10 cells in them.

If you are experiencing any strange sounds coming from your machine take the coil cover off and clean it out from time to time. I have used Silicone on my coil covers to seal them up. I still find that the black sand gets in between the coil and the coil cover and I have to clean it out at times. You would think that after using Silicone caulking to seal it up I would not have to do this... but the black sands get in there
