Battery Question: Alkaline vs. NiMh rechargable?

OK SImply put

ALkaline or rechargable NiMH??? My CX III thakes 6 "C" Cells, and I see that they have very poweful rechargables now, If I am willing to spend about $60 to get set up.

What does everyone think?

well.....how often do you plan on hunting? I hunt nearly every day, so rechargeables are the only way to go. If you only hunt ....say 2-3 hours a week, alkalines might be the way to go. Rechargeables also discharge while they are just sitting. Alkalines have a much longer shelf life.

Well, I often use the rechargables in radios, and
have a set of AA's I can use in the detector. But...
I actually prefer to use alkaline cuz the voltage
should be higher. A alkaline cell will deliver 1.5 v per
cell. The usual ni-cad or NiMh does about 1.2 v per
cell. So if you use the rechargables, you get a total
of 4.8 volts to the detector. "ace 250 with 4 AA's"
With the alkalines you get 6 volts to the detector.
Being this is a "getting the most depth" thang, I prefer
to use the higher voltage. :) Whether it actually matters
for the ace 250, I dunno. Would make a good test..
But for now I'm going with the max juice. One thing that
makes that easier is I happen to have one of these big
dollar stores nearby.
They sell batteries cheap compared to other places.
I can get 4 regular plain jane AA's for a buck. I can
get eveready "gold" 2 for a buck. So it's pretty cheap
being I get quite a few hours. I change my batteries
pretty quick too...Once It's dropped one bar, and it's
been that way for a while, I'll usually change to a new
set. If I didn't get them so cheap, I'd probably wait
longer..
The NiMh AA's I have are rayovac energizer ACCU rated at
1200 mah. So pretty good capacity. But...Like I say, they
put out less voltage, so I haven't been using them in the
detector. I sleep better at night with 6v.. :goodnight:
