to-day i made contact with a husband and wife team, both using modified silver sabre u max's.they both wear backpacks in which they each have a small 12 volt car battery wired into their detectors, replacing the original battery system.listening through the man's earphones to the responce of a small coin on the ground,it was crisp and sharp.it kinda made my vaquero sound whimpy. he said that i could do the same with a similar set up in a 9volt battery pack, but i don't know if the vaquero could handle an increase, not in volts but either series or parallel i ain't a sparky.their machines looked like you could take them to war and beat up the enemy with them i'm sure you all are going to tear me to pieces over this post but as always i had to ask! blowfly:detecting: hh ta!

prehaps they dont like payn for batterys an would prefer to lug around a backpack , I dont belive it would increase the detectors performace in any way at all apart from extended battery life , the UK have a mod out if extended battery life is what ya have in mind

A simple conversion for all Tesoro's and Laser's which currently run on 1x 9volt
.
This neat modification allows you to run your machine on 6AA batteries. Resulting in much longer battery life.

Run longer on a battery pack - yes more than likely. Run better - no way. A detector has an internal voltage regulator that keeps the voltage at the desired voltage. A person could add a battery pack a mile long and the only benefit would be the detector would run longer. Steve.

Puzzles me as I haven't had poor battery life from any of my Tesoros. In fact, if battery life was a problem for me, I'd be happy as could be because that'd mean I'd been detecting a LOT. The most I'd do would be to move up to rechargeables. My two bits.

i've been thinking about these people,if your a bit of a sparky would you have to adjust or retune something internally to make them perform better.i read a post that said the fcc controls the output of all detectors.i wondered if the husband has fiddled with something else other than the battery to improve performance .were the silver sabres a really good machine? blowfly bye :detecting:

Yes, the Silver Sabres properly set and hunting moderate ground were/are an excellent detector considering they are a preset ground balance. .
