BATTERY POD POWER SOURCE FOR EXCALIBUR:

Hey All You Electronic Gurus', This electronic dummy needs some sound advice for looking at having my Minelab Excalibur rechargable battery pod re-built. I would like to have my pod rebuilt with either Nimh or more Ni-cad Batteries. Do any of you guys know where I can have the job done by a reputable source, and if so can you provide a name, possibly a ph#. I would prefer to have Nimh Batteries put in the existing pod, so it would maintain its 200 ft. waterproof depth, and if not I would go with Ni-Cads.
Also, can you recommend a good universal charger for charging different systems. Also, I am considering using Nimh Batteries in my Fisher CZ-70Pro, and would appreciate any advise to whether I should consider this move, and what Nimh Batteries and Mah power to use. I have been doing some research on the web, and would appreciate some personal experienced recommendations.
Many Thanks, HH,

Also, I have chaecked with Ralph at SunRay, and he won't have a new charging system for approx.
5 months, so that is why I am looking at other options. HH

Les,

I had two packs rebuilt by Batteries Plus. They used nickel metal hydride cells. The cost was about $35. I would recommend opening the pod yourself and just giving them the battery pack. When you put the pod back together don't tighten the small screws. Just screw them in until they are flush with the tube.

I use the charger that came with my Excalibur. To calculate the charge time for the new battery pack, add 40% to the mAh of the battery and then divide by the output of the charger. This will give you the charge time in hours.
