Battery Modification Question

There are several metal detectors on the market that take 8 AA penlight cells. I was considering making a mod where i could substitute a 12vdc gel cell to replace the AA batteries. I don't mind wearing the gel cell on my belt or a shoulder attachment. I just don't know what amperage of gel cell to consider?

The bigger the better.
The amperage or mah is the capacity of the battery. The machine will draw whatever amount of current it needs, you want the battery with the most capacity as you can get that you feel you can carry around. You could use a car battery if you wanted.. Then MD would be considered exercise!!

What detector do you want it for? There may be a Li-ion battery pack already available, that wouldn't require modding your detector. The one I'm using in my DFX and GMT gives me 70 hours of use.

I use powerEX 2700 mah AAs in my Coinmaster GT and they last well over the 20 hours I get with standard AA. The CMGT battery tray is not the same as the DFX and other metal box Whites. There may be someone how makes one for the CMGT but I have not looked. No way I would be tethered to the machine.. would never go back to wired head phones.. let along a battery.
