Battery Life

I know I have'nt used my detector for 20 hours, turned it on today and the Low Battery beep started. Its been a couple of weeks since I used it.

I have the 70,does it drain the batteries even when not being used?

Should I take the batteries out when I'm done and put them in at the next trip?

I did find a Matchbox car,a pulltab,2 screw caps,1 dime,1quarter and 4 pennies at my church this afternoon. Also cut a cable accidently, asked the Pastor but he said they have'nt ran any cables in that area and not worry about it.

I don't know if you use headphones but if you don't that will use more power than if you did. I would imagine that if you did not use them and you were going over a lot of junk with the audio working overtime then that would cause a bit of drain. I use rechargeable NiMH which are rated at 2700mah made by Power Tech. From last charge I have used the Terra 70 for about 18 hours and they are still showing the Batt full icon. There are some really dodgy batts on the market and some are lucky to give you half of the power they are supposed to. Steer clear of super cheaps, its false economy.

My detector shows full batteries for quite a while and then fairly quickly drops to half charge indicated. From there is slowly goes down. I've never drained the batteries all the way. All I know is that when using the headphones, the batteries seem to last one heck of a long time.

I was told, when I purchased my -70's, to NOT leave the batteries in when not using them. The springs are weak in the battery compartment, and could compress from the continuous pressure. A couple other people have also told me this. Also, when inserting the batteries you want to slide them in easily. Don't drop them in because it could also collapse the springs so they won't make good contact. Has anyone else been told this, or is this not an issue?

I always slide in the batteries so as not to bang the springs and I have never had a problem with the springs getting week.

Unless your talking long term storage, I wouldnt' think you have to remove the batteries. Knowing me, I'd probably break the battery lid.

I have had the same thing happen when the X70 sits for a long time with no use. I use rechargables and seem to get forever out of them when I am using the machine, but if it sits for a week or so the batts seem to go down. I have not heard anything about problems with springs in the battery box.
