Battery Life with CZ6A

Hello All,

Just a quick question about battery life with the 6A. I'm using rechargeable 9V batteries and they seem to go for only about 6 hours? Does that seem about right? I used to hunt with the Sand Shark and the battery life was much longer so I have to be careful when I'm out there with the 6A. Last weekend I ran out of juice on the beach and didn't have any backup batteries. When the rechargeables run out, they run out, no ifs, ands, or buts, about it.

Got out on the beach today for a couple hours. The crowds have been fairly decent for this time of year. Last year June was dead on the beaches here is S. Ca. I pulled a pretty decent 14K mans ring out of the wet today along with a couple other junk pieces of jewelry. There weren't many targets in the wet today but I kept at it hoping to find a recent drop. I believe there are two life spans to a lost ring in the ocean. A short term and a long term. The short term migration is immediatly towards the surfline if there is any wave action at all. After the short term life span which I believe lasts for about two days, rings sink out of detector range and only show up after some huge waves or beach erosion occurs. That just my take.

I have been using alkaline (copper top) in mine. Life depends. Pinpointing seems to take a lot of juice. I am generally in the 14 to 16 hour range or so per set. Sand Shark has been around 20 to 24 hours for me.

The highest capacity Nimh 9v you can get is 200 mAh. You can now get 500 mAh Lithium Ion 9v's, that will more than double your run time of rechargeables. Thomas Distributing has them, I sure other places do to. You might need a new charger for the switch.

One other tip, I only use the pinpoint button to size a target. It is faster to pinpoint in Discrimination. Pump the coil a little up and down while lifting it higher and higher over the target, at the highest point of detection your coil will be centered over the target.

Hunting in the auto tune mode burns more juice than hunting in discrimination also.

Seems about right judging by the average rechargeable..Good alkalines should give approx. 20 hrs.

Yep the pinpoint pulls a lot of juice so pinpointing in disc. will add to battery life.

on the CZ-6a i use duracell and get about 18 to 20 hrs
