Battery corrosion

New member
I discovered why my MXT was shutting down, I had a leaking battery and the contacts have corrosion on them would I be better of just getting a new holder or is there a cleaner that I could use?

A cleaner would only be a temporary solution, I would get another holder and a spare too.

i took my mxt to the beach one time. i was meeting a couple of friends and ended up not metal detecting. i left the md in the car and it was summer time in fl. the car got really hot and one of the batteries started to leak. luckily ,i did go hunting the next day but the mxt wasnt acting right. i saw the battery pack had a problem. i cleaned the battery pack with rubbing alcohol. also cleaned the contacts inside the mxt with q tips dipped in rubbing alcohol where the battery case connects. it worked for me. still going 2 years after. i dont know how long your battery was leaking but if the corrosion is not that bad give it a try.
