Battery Charger

I just finished my first reading of Advanced Field Methods for the Excalibur by Clive Clynick. He states on page 103 that if you leave your charger in the outlet with no cell attached, it will stop working.
I had never heard of this, but I got up and unplugged mine. Has anyone ever had any problems with their charger by leaving it plugged in?

I,m not sure of the details but it will shorten the life of the charger by leaving it pluged in.
