Battery charger Questions........

Bobbie

New member
We now own 2 Excals and 3 NICAD and 1 NIMH batteries with one Minelab charger that does not seem to work correctly. What are some good battery chargers that will charge both battery types without ruining the NICADs.

The best charger I have found so far was the Sunray SR-12 Supercharger. It came with adaptors for all the common rechargeable detector batteries including the Excal Battery Pack. Unfortunately they are no longer being made. Still you maybe able to find a used one around if you place a post on the Classified Forum. The charger was safe for both Nicad and NIMH battery packs and could recharge them in less than 4 hours without damage. I keep looking but so far I have not found anything currently available that was as good as the SR-12. It's really ashame that Ralph stopped making them. Oh the reason I keep looking for something to replace mine is because I know that sooner or later like all electronic equipment it will die and when it does I want to have something to take it's place. Good Luck!

Merry Christmas

I'm about to have my Excalibur battery rebuilt with NiMH 2/3 A 2400mAh batteries and am going to try out one of these chargers, they are somewhat custom tailored to your needs. http://www.batteryweb.com/powersonic_ni_chargers.cfm

To me it looks like it is not made for dry cells, but for lead acid batteries plus the charge looks a bit high at 750Mha.If it is I would worry about cooking the battery and ruining them. I would double check this one out to be sure it would be OK or not.

UPS delivered the charger today, the label on the charger shows a 240ma output (I indicated 2400mah batteries on the order form). I'm just waiting on the local battery guy to receive the batteries he has on order for me, they should be in sometime this week.

Best cheap option is the Rayovac (MkII version) supplied for their rechargable Alkaline packs. Charges each cell according to its needs and also detects and charges correctly both NiCads and NiMH.
Very expensive when first launched the price eventually dropped to
