Battery Charger Question ?

Hello, I was wondering if some one could tell me the out put on there charger, my Minelab nicad charger says 14.3vdc, but my meter reads 18.4vdc. Is this too much, and could it damage my battery pack? I just ordered the new 1600mah from ebay and would like to confirm before charging.

What you measured was the no load voltage. When you hook up to the battery with it, the internal resistance of the charger will drop the voltage and limit the current.
It is normal for the charger to read 18V with no load.

I use the stock Minelab Nicad charger from my Excal to charge the new Nimh 1600 mah batteries, no problem. Plug it in, charge it up and no worries. I bought the quick charger and Excal converter from the same place as the nimh batteries. Full charge in 2-3 hrs. and it even has a light to let you know when it's fully charged, excellent!!! But the Minelab charger will do the trick, it's just really slow!! You're gonna like the Nimh vs the Nicad, a charge lasts a lot longer!!

Will the quick charger work on the Nicad batteries. Would like to charge up mine quicker than the stock charger. My Nicads are almost new so it will be awhile before I get the Nimh packs as I have 2 . How much was the quick charger and converter? Do you have the link to the site?

I stepping up from the 1600 nimh batteries to the 2400 nimh.. It will take longer to charge but hope I get longer detecting time. Going to buy another charger also. I carry about 16 batteries all the time plus the waterproof set for the Excalibur-goldnugget-Charlotte,N.C.
