battery charger for old sovereign

Someone has given me an older Minelab Sovereign detector. The best I can tell it's not a GT, but just a plain old Sovereign. It's got a couple of old looking battery packs but no charger.

Can anyone give me the specs. of the charger that should be used for these nicad packs? There are a total of 10 in each pack.

thanks.

Thanks, I'm glad I asked. Would have thought it required more than 60ma. I'll dig through my old wall warts and see if I can find one.

Doubtful if you can find one exactly the same, unless you get one from a dealer.

The Minelab chargers are pretty much trickle chargers, and normally take 12-14 hours for a full charge.

Be carful with other chargers that don't charge at the same rate. You will have to recalculate charge time.

Let us know what you come up with.

I have the same model, what I have done is replace the original battery pack and now use 8x AA size NiMH rechargeable batteries

If I am reading this correctly you say you are using 8 of the NiMH batteries in your Sovereign?? This will not work, or only for a short time as you need 10 of them to work correctly as the NiMH batteries are only 1.2 volts apiece which 8 would only give you 9.6 volts instead of the 12 volts needed to run the Sovereign. The factory pack and the Sun Ray pack each have 10 cells in them to give the 12 volts needed.
