battery charge

I have about 12 hours on my excal 2 rechargable battery I want to charge it again how long do I charge it for? just have the regular wall charger. I was told you can keep topping the battery off, and in about 6 months completely discharge then recharge again ?

Excal 2's come with NiMH and a trickle charger. In theory the NiMH batteries do not develop charging memory like NiCad batteries do, so you can top them up. But trickle charging them for too long has been reported to cut their life.

I'd recommend picking up an after market charger that measures charge state and adjusts accordingly.

One inexpensive one is here (although there are many chargers that will do very well):
7 to 10 cell charger

Cheers,
tvr

Erikk, how about some info so I can build one of these charging stations? What are the mfrs & part numbers? It looks pretty cool! I have just about every one of the cheapies, but I like the looks of yours.

"Na, slum lord in Punta Gorda!"

 ..... I like your style !!......Your charger ain't bad either .....Jim

Accucel 6 is an excellent value. If you shop on-line they can be purchased for a little over $20. You do need a 12 volt power supply to operate the unit. That can be anything from a car battery to a filtered power supply made for HAM radio. If you have an old computer you can scavange the power supply out of it. Can't/Don't use a regular 12 volt car charger. The reason for the need for a 12 volt power supply is that one of the primary uses for those chargers is for the RC folks to recharge their Lipo batteries in the field. They use their car batttery. Some of those good chargers do come with a power supply built in but they cost a little more. I have said tons of times on this forum that it's just as important for we detecting folks to have a good charger just like it is for the RC folks.jim

For those who do not know the legend True or Not?

Really nice charger even for a slum lord! :surprised:

Nice set up.
Could you tell me what kind of coils you have on the blue Excalibur's.

I'm with you on the Gaspar thing but it sure does help the Tampa economy.

That is why he was created.

WOT coils on both excals and stock on excal2 , 10 x 14 DD on LS, 10 x14 concentric on SH m2 and 12 in on BH300
BTW dug a 2.8 WG band today at captiva that was 6 scoops deep-I am sure U know how sanded in it is there. All of Sanibel for that matter. Stock coil wouldn't have touched it in a million years(that is why it was still there)
