Battery change on the Dual field

I'm about due for a battery change on my dual field and I dont want to be one of the many who have given up on the machine.

Ive heard that you have to wipe off the excess lube before buttoning it up. Anyone that can confirm this for me or is it a myth.
 
Yes, I understand that you should wipe off and excess grease you put on it before you close up the housing.
 
I have owned the PI PRO and Dual Field and never have I used any kind of lube on the orange O ring... the only thing I do is wipe it clean to make sure there is no grit or dirt on the seal...
 
Hunter: I don't want to make this sound more complicated than it is but here is a rundown on the extreemly careful way to do it. In that I hunt as a pro, one mistake can ruit a trip so I can't make mistakes. Get yourself a toothbrush and a clean cloth. Also never remove the gasket with a knife! And no, there is no need for silicone grease if you do things properly. Be especially careful if you have removed the gasket as it will fall out at the sides more readily when you go to turn the cover upside-down to place it. This is very simple and easy once you do it a few times!
