Batteries

From reading the forum, I see that most of you are buying double A rechargeable batteries. I am curious why you are not buying the rechargeable bar from minelab. It is the NiMH chargeable battery pack 1800 MAH 9.6 v. Is it the cost or efficiency - which is better or most efficient.

I have a drawer full of NiMH batteries that have let me down on more than one occasion. As a photographer you can only imagine the dismay when a bunch of my batteries that I charged the the week before only lasted through few photos at a wedding.

Driving hours to get to a pristine location to do some detecting and having batteries that are either partially or poor duration is not worth it to me. I find that NiMH batteries tend to loose their charge when sitting even for just a few days. I have tried different batteries and different chargers. They all were awful. Well, they are fine if you remember to charge them up the day before but thats about it.

Now if Minelab would come out with a Lithium Ion battery pack I would go for that. Lithium rechargables hold a nice charge, they are light and last a LONG time. I can get a full day or about 800 photos from my NIkon with a Lithium pack I charged months before hand.

In the meantime I'll stay with the 24 pack of AA Alkaline batteries I get from Advance Auto Parts. They are only $7.95, work great, no risk of damaging my unit and always ready to go.

I agree with Sky1, I use the "Dollar General" or Walgreens AA Alkalines. They last just as long as the big boys do in the Safari, even longer in my Xterra 705. I can run the batteries down in the Safari and still use 4 of them in the Xterra for a couple of hunts!!!

Have you tried Sanyo Eneloop batteries or the equivalent in your camera? (if it takes AA or AAA) they are a type of battery that holds change between uses even in storage and ideal for cameras and detectors.

I bought the NiMH chargeable battery pack 1800 MAH 9.6 v for my safari. For a 1,000 dollar machine it should just come with it IMO. I used regular batteries for the first few outings, then some rechargeable AA's. I then ponied up the 100 bucks and bought the battery pack. It's nice and lasts a tad longer than the rechargeables. Plus I now have 2 battery packs just in case. My machine is in the shop right now, I had several dead pixel lines showing up across the display.... but the ground here is frozen solid and it's under warrantee so no biggie.

Does anybody know anything about the Kodak rechargeable batteries - the 2500 MAH batteries . Are they any good, and do they hold a charge and how long does it last?
