Barts hometown, big tornado?

GKMan

Well-known member
I just heard that Barts hometown was hit by a real bad tornado? Either way my thoughts are with the families..

I watched one develop on the Weather Channel yesterday. It went from a single medium intensity tornado then lifted up. It then started to drop back down as a multi-tornado then turned into a long lasting monster...... Luckily it went into mostly unpopulated areas. This all started in Oklahoma right north of Oklahoma City then continued northeastward.

The one this afternoon leveled Moore OK, just South of Oklahoma City. We have friends who live just three miles from the center of the damage, they are OK but I'm afraid many are not.

My friend is stationed there in the army he took a pic of the tornado, not good at all!

I can't begin to imagine the pain felt by the locals....Total devastation with very high casualty rates. That same line of storms went through the area of Texas that I live in, and we had tennis ball size hail, 60-70 mph winds and two small tornadoes 4 miles south of my house, but it was nothing, compared to what hit Moore.

I messaged Bart last night and he said they were shaken but otherwise OK. Tornado passed about a mile from him. Bart wanted me to tell everyone thanks for thinking about him and if you would please take a second to remember the ones here

I'm sure they were shaken considering they were about a mile away. The winds around that tornado were blowing 70-100 mph. That's not even in it. It's sad to see what happened there. I'm glad Bart made it okay.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. We are ok and back up and running 100% Many of the town was totally blown away. Body count was not as bad as once feared, 24. I learned last night one of the kids I use to coach on my sons football team was one of the ones in the school that didn't make it. Another one was in there but got out alive. Very sad deal.

It was WAY WAY to close. I have lived in OK my whole life and seen many of them but this one was a total nightmare. I have never seen one this big in person and the sound it made as it was rumbled by I can not describe. I was scared for my and my families life for about 5 minutes as it was about 3/4 of a mile away. I was peeking out from under garage door right next to the storm shelter the wife and kids were in. They were praying and I was watching it trying to stay calm and not let them know how actually close it was. From the sound of it, I knew they could tell and I am sure they could tell I was for once scared of one. I usually never even get out of my favorite chair.

Was a horrible night for birthday day but we can make that up another time. Please pray for the town of Moore and the state of Oklahoma. Its really rough around here but we can already see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. Moore OK needs all it can get!

Bart, Glad to hear your family is safe and sound.....

Bart glad you are ok down there!! We were up here watching that monster on TV, I've never seen anything like it before, except in the movies. So sad about the kids... Will keep you all in my prayers, if you need anything let me know.

Bart----So glad to hear you & your family made it thru that terrible tornado ok.----All of you folks down there in that area have been & are in our prayers.----------God Bless, Del & Patsy

Glad to hear you all are ok we are praying for all you guys in OK, I have been thru some crazy stuff while in the marines over in the Middle East as an infantryman but I tell you at least over there you have a 50/50 shot and kind of take your life in your own hands in a sense, but when Mother Nature bares down on us she sees no colors she doesn't see rich poor or middle class everyone can get it just the same! That in itself is very scary, and again we are very glad to hear your alive and well!

That reminds me of my daddy. He is never scared of a storm no matter how bad it gets or he doesn't show it. We had a bad storm come through here one day and it was rocking. Trees were falling down everywhere and you could barely see across the road. My daddy was laying back in his recliner and said "This is your hurricane!. Aren't you excited!?" talking to me in sarcasm. I have always loved and been intrigued by extreme weather. Though, I was scared that day. Thing is these weather events are exciting and interesting to people like me until they become life threatening such as the tornado that struck Moore. When they become life threatening, then they go from interesting to nightmares come to life. It is sad looking at something like that and knowing what it's doing to peoples lives. I'm glad you made it and your family is safe.

Just so others know, you can text "Red Cross" to 90999 from your cell phone to make a $10 donationto the American Red Cross to help out in situations like this. A little from those that have some, sure can help alot to those that don't.

Great post! Thank you!

We are doing well on the rebuilding and cleaning up process. The amount of damage it will take many months but we ARE making progress. Very proud of my town and state. The whole country is helping us. Makes you proud to be an American!
