I just read Bill's theory of making detecting fun and truer words were never spoken. For years I have secretly had similar views. I have had days where detecting was fun and days where it was almost a chore. I have days where my frame of mind seems to control how much fun I'm having. I have had days where I have fun even though I don't find much. I usually hunt with little or no discrimination and when I am having a good day, the noise is not bothersome, but other days, you just can't concentrate. Being a former athlete, I can remember days of being in a zone and I could do nothing wrong. I have those same days detecting. Some days will start out with nothing going right and boom, things start popping out of the ground and my day turns out great. Don't get me wrong, every day detecting is enjoyable for me, but some days are just better and that has absolutely nothing to do with how much I find. Maybe it is some great weather or scenery or meeting some good people. I never try to go out with the frame of mind that I have to find tons of old coins or some other good stuff, but if that happens, it makes a good day even better. This hobby is the greatest thing to ever happen to me because of the relaxation and excercise I get from it. Finding a few coins only the frosting on the cake. R.L.
