Barnacle Jr. "Have X-30 will coin shoot."

Took the Jr. out for some coin shooting in an area I have left for when the crumb snatchers accompany me. Today rather than detect myself I decided to provide instruction and encouragement. What's pictured is about an hour and a half's time in the field. It was 46degF with a light mist, so a little uncomfortable after an hour or so.

We were not on a manicured lawn or anything but todays lesson revolved around cutting plugs and leaving the area virtually unscathed when we left. So each find's time included digging a plug and carefully restoring the hole afterword. The coins have a characteristic corrosion layer from being under pine trees, the needles of which make the soil very acidic. Oldest coin was a 1961 memorial.

Any day you can take the kids along detecting is a GREAT day. I remember (25 - 30 years ago) when my kids would go with me. It usually cost me a candy bar and a bottle of pop, but we still talk about those days. Enjoy them now because they seem to slip by real quick! Glad to see them learning the proper removal techniques. Good job!!! HH Randy

That's what I need to do with my grandson, Bill. In the past we both detect and I try to instruct and hunt at the same time, and it doesn't work that well. Concentrated hands on lessons make sense:thumbup:
