Barnacle Bills table of coils...

list the available coils, freq.and size to the targets each are suited for.
I have never used Minelab detectors so give me some space. I presently use a Whites M6 and XL pro. I do like each of them and dont think I will get rid of them.
I have become interested in the XT 70 and do very much wish the Musky had a TID.
I have several very old lots I hunt with lots of iron and modern trash. Some spots are very nasty and some not so nasty but still lots of targets under the ground. My mineralzation isnt bad, very mild.
I like the M6 because of its fast response on targets, using a smaller coil. Do any of you use the 70 in environmets like this and what kind of response time does it have?
Back to the coils and the reference table. Are these factory coils??? Are there any after market coils available and your opinions on them please. I like small coils for the seperation.
I know there is no magic bullet and although Im way behind many of you, I do understand this. But, as I have read many, many post I have come to believe (at least for now, because everything changes, even our own minds after we learn more) that many experienced detectorist have come to a point where they know what works for them and maybe they sort of match up with a certain detector for whatever the reason may be.
So,Ive started to look at different brands.
Thanks very much,
John

I find the target response on the 70 and M6 to be about the same. The 70 has 3 times the features as the M6. The best thing is the 70 is a full pound lighter. Then the 70 has fully adjustable notches. These two things alone make the 70 way better than the M6. Not to mention auto, manual or track ground balance. Volume control. Prospecting mode that's very sensitive. The ability to change frequencies. The 70 beats the M6 hands down. I had two M6's before I got the 70. Needless to say I don't own any M6's any more.

which one I prefer.

All the coils for the X-Terras are factory coils. There will probably never be any coils made for these detectors by anyone other than Minelab. The X-terra are very good in the situations you described, especially if you put one of the small coils in them. If the site is very trashy, you might want to try the small DD for the best separation. It does not get as much depth as the concentric but in very trashy sites separation is usually more important then depth.

My Xterra 70 and F75 really helped me make up my mine to really thin out the heard. The keepers are my 6000XLPRO, Xterra 70, CZ3D, Cz6A, SE, GT, Shadow X5, CZ20 and my Excal.

Oh BTW I did finally get the Xterra 70 to work on that bad Black sand beach I hunt on. I had to put it in track all the time and beach mode. Never could get a target past 8"s and it would still pop on the small iron targets.

I think I am going to try and find a 7.5 KHz DD coil and try that next time I am over there which will be around april. I think it should do better then the 18.75 5X10 and the 7.5 concentric I have.

Since it is such a bad black sand beach what do you think will work over there on the Xterra 70???? X70 just did not get the depth I am looking for. I just got to work with it more over there and I know I can get it to work just got to try different things. I will say my 6000XLPRO will be one of the detectors that I will never get rid of. Living in the Midwest, I don't have the opportunity to hunt beaches. So my opinions are based solely on what I have learned about the coils in my dirt. Since you will likely be hunting for coins and jewelry, I'd probably opt for the higher frequency. Either will do a bang up job on coins. But the 18.75 coils seem to be more sensitive to small pieces of jewelry than the 7.5 khz. JMHO HH Randy

I was thinking that some of the VF single frequency machines for the salt run around 2.5 kHz.. So I was just thinking maybe the 7.5 dd coil would be better than the 18.75?

I certainly like my Minelabs. But I have a few others that I am partial to as well.....
