Last week I went to ask an owner for permission about an abandoned house that she owns down the road. I go up to the door and knock and then step back off the porch onto the steps, I looked down and see 6 Morgan Dollars and 4 Indian Heads set in the concrete! By now the owner of the house comes to the door and is a nice little old lady that tells me about her husband that set the dollars in there when they built the house in the 50's. She said that her kids found the Indians in the yard as there was a very old house there that they tore down. She then tells me about a coin that she found a recently in her flower garden close to where the old well used to be. She goes in a gets it and I'm blown away when she hands me an 1833 Half Dime! We had a nice long talk about the good ole days and she said I can look around anytime and was trying to think of other old home sites in the area. I haven't been back to her place but did hunt around the other old house she owns yesterday and found a few coins that are in the group pic below.
Saturday I helped my Dad cut his grass and do some cleaning up around his place. Last week I cut the overgrown area between his fence and the neighbor's fence, but needed to cut some limbs this week along the fence. As I was walking through this little spot I saw a quarter laying on the ground and thought "cool I got me a quarter" but that quickly changed to real excitement as it turned out to be a 1914 Barber Quarter! I could not believe my luck! I took some pictures and left it laying so I could show my parents and my little girl my cool surface find. We figured out that it was brought up when they dug the hole for one of the wood post. The house was built in 1910 and I detected the front yard when I was a kid but didn't find anything this cool.
