Bar Copper

I found this at an old school site approx. 7 yrs ago (school long torn down) that was built in the 1800s and ceased to exist in the 1950s. The site is/has been an empty lot adjacent to a corn field since then. This is known as a "Bar Copper" as seen with 13 bars on the reverse and it is from 1785 - 1st circ. in NY. How it got all the way up here in Michigan to a school in the middle of no where built in the 1880s, I have no idea.. It is my best find EVER (worth approx. $3000) and NO, I won't sell it! There are "less valuable" copies made during the civil war era (approx. 1862) and are known by the A crossing UNDER the S instead of over the S as mine shows proof of being original. The later "copies" are worth 1/10th the value.
Has anyone else found one of these? I know 1 other fellow detectorist that found one (but) his is a later copy from the 1862 strikes.
There are also "other copies" which are 20th century and have a small C printed under the USA to show as proof of being a copy. Those are almost worthless (15.00 at best)..
P.S.
I've also found a lot of silver coin at this site over the years (as well as) school rings, ear rings, small trinkets of all types and relics of the era that the school was built (including) the brass hand held school bell that a teacher would call the kids in from recess with (sorry but- I did sell that long ago)!

Because, when you guys get to know me, you'll either "love me OR hate me!"
I'm new to this site (found it a week or so back) but-- way NOT new to detecting.. I'm 41 yrs young-- look 31 and act like I'm anything between 21 and my actual age (depending on my mood and what I'm doing!) lol
I've been detecting for approx. 20yrs and been looking for a site like this for 1/2 of those YEARS to share with people such as I've seen here but- I don't know WTF or why I never found this place! I've been hanging out on a board on MSN for like EVER and lemme tell ya-- B O R I N G doesn't even come CLOSE to describing it OR the people I've been dealing with over there!

Hello there. Glad you posted that pic. hey, is that a button. i found a usa button a while back, but it is a button. what was yours used for?

Thanks,
It was used as money (1 cent) when made. It's called a "Bar copper" or a "Bar Cent".

I currently have/use an MXT, a GTI 2500 and a Fisher CZ20. I'm going to buy the new Infinium LS soon. I found the copper with a GTA 1000 that I owned at that time. I was hunting in all metal motion mode or, discriminate mode with 0 descrimination as better known by some. the GTA 1000's didn't have a "true all metal NON motion mode" or I don't think they did anyway. It's been a while since I've seen/used one. I had a Grand Master Hunter CX III with "true all metal NON motion mode" that I used when hunting that style.

Sounds good! I would be really confused as to which one to use! Ha Ha. I use an Explorer XS. I like it too much to try anything else. I did buy the WOT from Doc last year and haven't used it enough yet.
Welcome to the forum and keep posting!!!H.H.
