Bandido umax question

What is a Bandido umax worth and what do you guys think of them? I know a guy that has one and I am thinking of getting it.

Yep I had back in the late 90's and there are outstanding detectors !

Good move. The first thing that you need to do is to check and see if a nickel discriminates out when the discrimination knob pointer is dead on the '5'. If not, loosen the allen screw and adjust so it does. It may take several tries to get it exactly perfect, but you want perfect. When that's done move the discrimination knob pointer so only the top half of the '3' shows. This is the approximate point where foil sports drink caps start to discriminate out. Get a foil cap and do your own testing, so you will know exactly where to set the discrimination. Set your threshold to a very slight hum and set the sensitivity where the detector is super quiet and stable. When you get a hit on a target slowly raise and sweep the coil over the target. If you hear crackling and popping, don't dig, it's likely can slaw. If the target slowly fades away without crackling and popping, start digging, it's likely a good target. You can also check to see if the target is a modern pull tab by thumbing the discrimination knob slightly past the '5' while sweeping the coil. If the audio starts breaking up, it's likely a modern pull tab.

Good Luck!

Thanks, tabman. I am picking it up today and heading for the beach. I am still planning on getting an Outlaw but this was a good price. I might decide to sell it to help pay for the Outlaw. Always fun to try a different detector.

Wouldn't be surprised if you decide to keep it after using it a bit.
