Bandido ll uMax All Metal mode Sensitivity Level

I have the subject metal detector. On page #10 of the Operator Instruction Manual, under the sub-title Setting the Sensitivity Level, there is an italicized note at the bottom of this section which says that (paraphrased here) the Sensitivity control does not affect the All Metal mode operation....

Seems like there would need to be some level of Sensitivity operating when hunting in the All Metal mode. Assuming so, what level would that be ? Is it level #10 or somewhere in the orange Max boost range ?

Need some help understanding this one.

Todd

Bandito is not the only one. I suspect that all VLF detectors are the same. Sensitivity is a function of discrimination and gives you some control of that circuitry. Go to an area in your yard or somewhere that has a bit of trash in the ground. For demonstration purpose, turn your sensitivity beyond max while in "max disc". Notice the instability as you sweep over the area? Now, if you back off the sens, your detector will stabilize, disciminate better, but it will lose its ability to sense deeper objects. Its a trade off..

With "all metal mode" the only real control you have is threshold and GB.

Hope this helps

It's my understanding that the all metal mode gives the maximum sensitivity the machine is capable of with no adjustment. I believe this is true for most machines that have a separate all metal mode.

Almost all detectors have all metal mode sensitivity set to a preset level, normally at the maximum level, but some of the older Garretts had/have separate knobs for setting the sensitivy in disc and all metal modes, I still have a 1987 model ADS Master Hunter 7 that does but some of the same model didn't, and some of the new digital detectors may have that capability but if I've seen one that does I didn't notice. The Cointrax and Goldtrax Treasure Barons also allow setting sensitivity in both modes, I have both and I think they have the best all metal modes by far of the too many detectors I've had. Photo is of my Garrett ADS 7. The knob on the far left is for disc mode sensitivity, the bigger knob at the far right is for all metal mode sensitivity.

What I've done in all metal mode when it sounds like things are going nuts is to raise the coil some with it still parallel to the ground. Further away, smaller part of the cone shape of the search field hitting the search area, less signal ... kind of like reducing the sensitivity.

Thanks everybody for your responses . Think I'll talk with Vince Gifford about this and report back here on what he says. Just want to clear up a few "gray areas" .

The "Sensitivity" control that is generally tied in with the Discriminate mode, and the circuitry-designed All Metal mode's "Sensitivity" are two different functions and it doesn't really relate to the front panel variable scale. The built-in All Metal mode Sensitivity level is basically at a maximum level (whatever that would be) on most models designed like the Bandido II

The Bandits rock....one of the best machines out there for everyday hunting and then some. I just love it.
