Bandido 2 Umax and discr. settings

Hello,
Today I took my Bandido 2 Umax for some air depth tests with different discriminatrion levels. (8" brown concentric coil on)
I noted that with discrim. from "min" to "1" it loses almost half depth than at "2" discr. (sens. to 10 and GB 2 clokwise rounds from the start)
I tried again and again, but always same results. it goes deeper in "2" than in "min" or "1" settings.
Can some Bandido 2 owners can do a similiar test and tell me what depth they get?
Many thanx.

Just run it at disc 2, and try it out in the dirt............just make sure you ground ballance on the dirt you are hunting in, air tests don't mean a thing. Good Luck............Hombre

Hi Hombre,
Thanks for reply. I disagreee that air tests mean nothing.
If I get half depth (half depth!) response at "1" than "2" discrimination settings, that means that it loses power with that setting, and that looks weird. i never saw a metal that loses power at minimum discr. levels. (No I'm wrong, even Eurosabre goes deeper in discr. than in all metal).
I noted that when I turn knob from "1" to "2" it sounds a little beep. Every time at the same point (in the middle between "1" and "2")
I just wanna ask for someone else with a bandido 2 to make this test and try to replicate my results.
Little note, my Bandido 2 is more tha in minty condition (i think that is has been never used).
Best regards,

I've had my Bandido ll uMax for over a year and never heard of anything like what you are saying, are you in discrimination mode? Or autoune allmetal, normal allmetal or what? Regards.........Hombre

I am in discr. - auto tune -.
I turn it on in all metal-autotune, set threeshold for a faint hum, gb as manual for in air tests (5 turns anticlockwise. and 2 turns cw). then put in discr. mode and set to "min" or "1", then go to "2" and I get doubled depth.
Can You give it a try?
Take r,

Yours must be different than mine because I get same depth in minimum disc as I do in disc setting 2, buy the way the ground ballance is a 3 & 3/4 turn pot. Regards ........Hombre

Thank You for reply Hombre.
I know that it has a 3 & 3/4 turn pot, but it is a no-end turns too. The manual states for a 5 acw turns to get the "real start" and 2 turns to get a gb for "in air tests". So, If Yours have not this weird behaviour I guess that a tour to Tesoro labs should be planned.

What country are you from? Your english sounds a little foreign. Before you sent it off, do yourself a favour, take it outside, ground ballance it to real dirt, and go find some coins. It will help you to decide if it is acting up inside because of electrical interference or not. I allways air test outside away from all electrical interferce. Good luck ..........Hombre

I'm from Italy. Yes, I'll follow Your advices, and wanna try different coils too.
But I can tell You that it happens not randomly, so I guess it is not an EMI problem.
Thank You,

Hey Alessandro

Do you know margiop? Otherwise known as Daniele, we chat on line sometimes, He is a White's electronics kind of guy.

By all means get that Bandido outside for some fresh air, do the ground ballance on some metal free piece of ground and

Have at it!!! You can PM me on your results, and I will help you if I can..........Hombre

Little update.
I tried my bandido 2 with a 12x10 spiked coil. No problem at all. Tried the 8" browny one on my Eurosabre with no discr. issues. So I think my Bandido 2 with its 8" stock coil simply don't match well.
That's interesting fact and I think that We all should make some tests with different coils. My Eurosabre with 8" concentric coil (sens at 10, discr. at min, audio on) scores 28 cm (target is an enfield empty shell, I'm a WWII relic hunter), same thing with the Bandido settings at "2" (discr.), but when I turn pot under "2" it scores max 13/14 cm. Also I found that 12x10 spiked coil performs better on Bandido than Eurosabre (31cm against 29/30 cm.). My conclusion is that tuning tollerance sometimes could be an issue and a very important thing is a good marriage beetween each detector and its coil.
Hope it helps.
Take r,
