Well my racer is on its 3rd 11x7 coil, first two ears broke.. The ears on this new one is definitely thicker.. Since all of my coil bolts broke they did send 3 new ones.. Hope they last longer than the day or so the first ones lasted.. Now while removing the 5.5x10 coil to install and test my new Warranty replacement 11x7 coil i noticed broken ear on the 5.5x10!! Wtf??? Ears are alot thicker on this coil.. So 3 broken coils and 3 broken coil bolts in what 2 months.. Well i dont need to say the word longevity ..ive never broke any coil in my almost 40 years of detecting.. Johnny we have a winner!!! Needless to say im not happy.. Good thing is someone is gonna get a amazing deal once coil comes back lmao ;)

THAT'S TERRIBLE!----That's also the first time I've heard of an ear breaking on the 5X10" racer coil.-----Anyone else have any ear breakage on their 5X10's?

I received a replacement 7x11" coil because my first one had the tabs break off. The replacement is Identical to the original coil. The tabs are exactly the same so I haven't used it. I thought I'd keep it so it's unused when I go to sell my Racer. Sucks because I'd really like to have a 7"x11" coil to use but right now I'm only using the 5" and the 5x10". I'm afraid to even look at the tabs on my other coils. I have also been detecting since 1975 and have never had a tab break on another coil by any other company. I usually have between 5 and 10 detectors at any one time and have used probably 50 different detectors over the years. I have two hunting buddies that also have the Racer and I feel pretty much responsible for at least one of them buying their detector on my recommendation. His is now in the shop being repaired and his coil broke also. He's not very happy with me right now as he used his White's MXT for two years without a problem and he's only had his Racer for about 6 weeks. I hope someone can make a good coil for the Racer. I'd love to have one.

My coils are on their own rods also. I also made sure they were shimmed just right to make sure there was no undo stress or pressure applied to the tabs. Bolts have all been changed to Fisher or White's so they won't break again. First time I've ever had a coil bolt break also.

I may have to put my coils on lower rods..i dont like to because i use a bag to carry all my things....but if a have to i have to.. Or i sell the damn thing, heck i dont know.. Most plastic is very very hard to break, bend it in half over and over and still wont break.. These coil ears just snap right off ..i hope the plastic in the lower rods and housing are made of the better plastic. Now i have to send in my 5.5x10 coil and wait for a shipment to come in to get a new one.. That coil was my most used coil.. I may buy a new omega 8500 and sell the racer really cheap!!

The ear on my 5X10 broke also. I was disassembling it from the shaft and the ear just fell off in my hand. I also have a shaft for each coil that I use. Anyone got a number to call ?

Makro says they will not warranty the 5.5x10 coil period. They said its user error if they break.. Lol

Did they explain exactly what they meant by user error? Did they maybe mean the coil was somehow abused or crushed? Per the Makro manual "Insert the washers as shown on the telescopc shaft. Install the telescopc shaft to ts locaton
on the search col. Secure by tghtenng the screw and nut.". That seems pretty simple to mess up with user error.
