You old timers will appreciate this story. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day here in central Oklahoma today. I left the house with high hopes of experimenting with the 11x17" coil in a park I've been hunting for a couple of years. Hoping to see if the large coil would pick up some of the deeper coins that the 11" may have missed. Got to the park, unloaded all my equipment, started off across the park and turned on my Garrett pin-pointer. Nothing but a loud constant buzz. I decided to continue on without it and find the coins the way we did it back in the bad old days -- running a handful of dirt under the coil until getting a signal. Sure was slow but did manage to find a couple of wheats from the 40s. Put a new battery in the pin-pointer when I got home and it seems to be working fine.
