While browsing the Internet I came across an advertisement for farmers insurance depicting a metal detectorist waving his detector over a sleeping sunbather and his gold necklass, then grabs the necklass and rips it off the man. A email to farmers ins. complaining of this is needed.
All of their ads are on the outrageous side of humor to get your attention and not to be taken seriously. (I don't think anyone really does) Bears don't ride motorcycles on the highway either..........
The ad is funny but in parts of the country where detecting in public spaces is being banned and enforced it might leave a sour taste in the MD'rs mouth. I don't think people take it seriously but it somewhat enforces the stereotype. I think all we really can do is try our best to make sure we change that image to anybody we talk to while we are out.
