Bad Coil

I've always noticed that whenever I would set my coil down I would get a quick beep, since I primarily hunt on the beach I often disregarded it as a false tone due to mineralization or wetness, etc. As with every hunt I always rinse from the shaft down and wipe clean my ctx, however today upon close examination I noticed that along the line were the coil has been "sealed" it has risen up. I never thought of looking before because my machine still has the "new car" smell and hardly has any swings behind it. Well, to my surprise here's the culprit. Has anyone else had this problem?

I called Minelab but there customer service is swamped with calls and someone said they'll call me back. I sure hope they do soon because I can't believe this has happened already. So sad, today I'm expecting my T-Rex scoop and it doesn't look as if I'll get to use it any time soon. :(

That's what you get for flaunting the fact that you are in a warmer climate :punch: . In all seriousness though, that sucks. You will have to do without for awhile till Minelab gets you a new one. Guess you're in the same boat as me here in Northwest Indiana, just looking at my gear wishing I could hunt.

LOL, ya hunting the beach in 74 degree weather is a drag, I know :)

Daytona, Sorry to hear about you misfortune. If we were closer, I would be glad to loan you my 6 inch coil, that I have never used yet, until you get yours replaced, but as you said earlier, there are too many miles between us. Do you have a Minelab dealer close by that might be able to help you out until you get your problem resolved. It is definitely worth a try and I would check on it if I were you. I feel sure that my dealer, Bart at Big Boys Hobbies would help me out if I ever had a problem such as yours. He sure has been great with me.
Good luck and I hope that you get it resolved quick, so that you can try out that T-Rex soon and let us know how you like it.

goodluck on the coil sucks for sure,,,,, sittin here northern p.a watchin the snow . it started at 2 pm and we got 5-6 inches already. beach and 75 sounds good righ now.f goodluck

thanks Dadzjunk, that was a great gesture and I appreciate it :) Minelab called me back and I have to send the entire unit in, not just the coil like I would of imagined. It seems they want to check everything which is pretty cool of them.

Apparently my coil is ok according to Minelab, they say that the coil cover is bowed and that sand under this cover may be the culprit for the falsing signals. I am so glad it's coming home soon. Minelab was fast an friendly, can't say enough good things about them :yo:

Well, you should be up and running soon. I removed my coil cover and washed everything, it still did the same thing mine was crazy wild. Dropped it off this morning at the UPS store.... Like you said, at least they are nice to deal with, I really appreciated the pre-paid shipping label from them.

Hang in there SE-5, we're all in this together, when one loses their CTX all others feel the pain.
