Backyard produces another first

Had the itch to get out and hunt today but didnt have time to go anywhere so I did some more hunting in the back yard with the kids. Over a spot that I thought I had pretty well covered I got a quarter signal and less than an inch deep popped up this 1877 Seated Liberty Quarter with Carson City mint mark and only 10 feet from where I found the 1867 shield nickel. The Seated is a first for me. I have some idea of the value and not sure of the grade but its in pretty good shape. HH all, JJ

Great Find for your own back yard...wish I did not have 5 tons of sheet metal and aluminum in the backyard.....dang roofing and siding crew!!!...:ranting:

wow, jj, congratulations! wow. WOW. good going, man! that sure is a nice, for real, carson city quarter! oh my god, get back out there in your yard and hit it again! great find, my friend. how many of the letters in "liberty" on the shield are visible? that's how theyr'e graded. hh,

Thanks for the positive feedback and info on the grading Gray. I tried to get a better shot with the scanner but that kept turning out way too bright to see any sort of detail, probably user error. After a little experimenting with a lighted magnifying lens and the macro setting on my digital cam, this is the very best I could do as far as the LIBERTY on the shield is concerned. The Y is very faint but visible when you eyeball the coin in person. Let me know what you think Gray, TC and HH, JJ

in fine - 12, you have a 50.00 + piece there, jj. it looks to be borderline very fine 20. wtg, man, great find! hh,

Thanks for all the replys guys and for that info Gray. It really just fuels the addiction. Now I just need the weather to cooperate with my time off so I can get back out. TC & HH, JJ
