Backup Detector to Explorer for noisy environments

Question for those of you who have other detectors besides minelab explorer. I was working under some power lines yesterday and really had to crank the sensitivity down on the explorer. Do some of the single frequency detectors out perform the explorer in noisy EMI environments?
Thanks
Chris

Power lines are funny, some seem to have no effect(at least after noise cancel) and a few make it sputter no matter what you do.. All detectors are affected by them to some extent. I know there are some machines that seem quiet hunting around them, but a silent machine doesnt neccessarily mean its not affecting performance. I have seen times when I have used other detectors and called others over using machines with different frequencies to check a target with other machines and as they got closer I would lose the signal even though I heard no interference..Myself I would rather hear it so I know to stay away from it or them. Thats one thing about the explorer as it really does seem to compensate as best it can with the auto noise cancel, as I dont see it happening as much untill I am very close(usually within 5 feet) to the other guys, even another explorer. I think that those that use detectors close to each other are affecting the performance of each others machines whether they hear it or not.. maybe not substantial, but to some extent.. the good thing about the explorer is you can do a noise cancel while close to who you are hunting with and lessen the chances. Its one of the best features of the XS over the S.. Many channels are quiet but we have no way to know which is best when using manual noise cancel, at least without going through and testing each channel over a target at every site while hunting near someone.. So after all this I didnt answer your question to what machine to use in these situations <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">

Hi Chris, I've had a lot of success with the Sovereign. The new Sov Elite has a 2 band noise cancel switch. This should prove even better. We just received our first Elites so I'll know soon. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
