Backup detector for my MXT

cocksie46

New member
G'day from Aussie, I'm thinking about purchasing a backup detector and I have 2 in mind: Whites Prizm 5G or Whites Coinmaster GT. Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts on these units? I'm sorta leaning towards the GT as it has beach and trac lock buttons. Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Kevin

I got a Whites M6 as back up it is a great detector. I used the 12x15 and 15x18 SEF coils with the M6 worked great.

[size=medium]seems to me ya already have the daddy of the m-6 in the mxt. they are basically the same machine. if the back-up is for when the mxt is down then the m-6 makes sense. if for use as a contrast hunting machine then something like the xlt would be good. that would work as a fill-in and a machine to use when ya don't feel like using themxt that day.

Thanks for the replies fellas, my wife will be using the backup unit so I thought it would be better for a lightweight unit like the Coinmaster gt. If my MXT breaks down then she will lose the backup:rolleyes: As Christmas is almost upon us I only want to pay out around the $400 to $450 . Christmas is a very expensive time for us here, with presents for kids, grandkids etc. plus all the freeloaders that turn up for Christmas dinner:rant: Anyway I'm not in a hurry at this stage so I'll keep my eyes open and see what's available.

Cheers,
Kevin

400 to 450 in moola M6 for sure

Finally made my mind up and have purchased a Coinmaster GT, should arrive after Xmas. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and after a lot of research decided on the GT. I would have liked a M6 as most of you suggested but they are not available here in Aussie and they would be too expensive here as well. My MXT is great, I really like it and have had quite a bit of success with it. Hope to hit the beaches around here after Xmas as we have lots of holiday makers in the area and the weather is really good at the moment, 35C tomorrow!!! I will be interested to see how the MXT performs on the beach.

Cheers and a Merry Xmas to you all from Aussie,
Kevin

White's machines don't need backups!

Hey Tom, You know what? You are absolutely right:thumbup: It was just an excuse to buy another Whites machine:tongue:

Cheers,
Kevin

Generally, the M6 would be my #1 back-up suggestion, unless it was for a detector to be used as you sated. Then the Coin GT would be my #2 detector because A.. It costs less if that fits your budget, and B.. It operates at a different frequency so you can hunt closer together, if needed, without any interference.

Both the Coin GT and MXT will handle most conditions well using both the 'Beach/Salt' selections and their automated Ground Balance. Where I would make one or two suggestions is in the way of search coils. I didn't see any mention of search coils you have and use for the MXT so I am encouraged to suggest you shop for the 5.3 Eclipse. This is a 6

My coinmaster gt finally arrived, I must say I'm impressed. Very nice looking unit, I love the color, and it's nicely balanced, hope to try it out tomorrow. I will get the 4x6DD coil as soon as I can. I have the 9.5 std. coil and the 6x10 DD coil for my MXT, so I should be set now with both these units.

Cheers and Happy New Year,
Kevin
