Backlight, headphones on V3i

I just got a V3i, moved up from a DFX. I was wondering with the screen looking pretty dark, does everyone use the backlight constantly on? I never used the backlight on the DFX unless I was hunting late or very early morning.
Also, how are the headphones for moisture if one decides to hunt in the rain? I have used my old Killer B's on th DFX with no problems, but I don't want to ruin the wireless set since they have the battery door that looks like it would let water in.

Merry Christmas all! I've used the headphones in slight rain with no problems and in this cloudy time of year I run the back light at 2 in the day. (Rain hunting is a mess and leaving things nice is a challenge!)

Still....If it's raining hard (and your still wanting to hunt) I'd just use the plug in phones.

Thanks you guys, I appreciate the info. With the backlight at 2, about how many hours are you running your V3 until the battery runs out? I plan on using the NiMH most of the time with the battery pack as back-up.

All day long, and hunting with Larry, I mean all day long. Actually I happen to run mine at 2 also. The NIMH is all I ever use and have never had to go to the alkaline backup. Rain has never been a problem for pod, box or phones.

I have never had rain cause a problem with any brand or model I've owned. (I use a rain jacket to keep the box nice only.) Now... water from clutzing into streams....was not pretty. Then again.....a battery pull, box opening, and a good drying, always worked. Lucky?

Unless you are trying to save the detector from scratches, the V3i doesn't need a pod or box cover. They are sealed nicely and it is not a paper speaker.

That sounds great. I used my DFX box cover on it and got out with it for the first time. It arrived just before Christmas and I had been itching to put the coil to the ground. Rain wasn't too bad and had a great time with it. Having had a DFX, it sure helps in understanding the V3i!
