Back when coins were aplenty - one summer's take..

THis pile is about two feet long and a foot wide and about 8-10 inches deep. Lordy I miss those days of 4000-6000 coin summers plus trinkets.

Bill

Bill, nice pile of coins! I may be on the way to one of those summers. I started seriously metal detecting on 6/15 this year. I looked over my log and for the first week I was really getting used to the new detector. 2 hour hunts with 20-30 coins averaging about $1.50-$3.00. My hunts improved markedly on 6/21 and my totals are as follows:

Zn Cent 297 (I stopped looking for these in early July)
Cu Cent 777
Nickel 487 (Low, I know. Sometimes if gound is real trashy I don't dig pop top type signals. I'll go back.)
Dime 1046 (Still no silver dimes.)
Quarter 907 (Looking forward to number 1000)
Half 2 (How could you drop and lose such a large coin? Alcohol?)
Sac 1 (Can't belive I finally found one.)

Total 3517 ($368.44)

Total does not include wheats, silver, or foreign coins which I keep separate. Also a nice pile of jewelry and other bits and bobs. About a month ago I bought a tumbler (a real cheapie) and started processing the clad. I'm about half way through but I added considerably this weekend. 330 coins for $36.62 and 6 rings and a bracelet. My goal when I started was 1000 coins or $100.00. Have to rethink that for next year.

Love to hear your 2007 totals if you have them.

My totals in 29 hunts so far this year...wish I could get out more. I am heading to the beach for a week, so I hope I can boost the clad count a little..

109 Quarters
238 Dimes
113 Nickels
528 Pennies
15 Wheats
1 Silver Quarter
1 Silver Dime
2 War Nickels
4 Canadian Pennies
1 10 Franc (France)

1012 coins which averages out to about 35 coins per hunt. I had set goals of 1000 coins or $50.00 in clad. I have hit both. Will have to adjust my numbers for next year. I set seperate goals for silver and wheats both of which I have NOT hit :( Also still looking for my first half, and first dollar coin. I have done pretty good in the jewelry department, with my best find being a large mens 18K gold rings with 6 small diamonds. Lots of charms (tot lots), but no tokens yet....
Just wanted to share my totals.

I bet a couple of hours a morning at the beach and you increase that count substantially. Coming to this forum has really motivated me. Everytime someone mentions a big find, like your 18k ring, I want to go out and try to find something good too. I'd love to see a pic if you have one. It will get me out early tomorrow morning.

I gotta find a spot with silver coins. Old foundations or houses I am thinking. Found some at the parking area of an old swimming hole and in a field where they used to have circuses in the 50s (also a skating pond) and nowhere else.

Have fun at the beach. Great vacation spot after Labor Day with managable crowds and still plenty of hot weather.
