Earlier this year I purchased an Eagle SL-II and after playing with it for a few days I got spoiled by the tone id.My XL-PRO got about an eight month vacation.A few weeks ago I purchased a modded XL-PRO from a member on Finds(the ROVER).I had forgotten how accurate the target id is on the PRO and with the tone id it's a real joy to use,so analog-I'm back! You just can't beat tone I.D. ! I have gotten to where I won't even consider buying a machine with out it.

Howdy David

I've had the mrand/Bill Lahr tone mod done to my 6000 Pro XL a couple of years ago. I like to use the G.E.B. SAT mode with tone mod turned on with the 5.3 Black Max coil. With this coil the signal balance can be turned past the pre-set to about 3:00 O'clock on the dial. If you can get a stable ground balance with this high of a signal ballance, this little coil can go almost as deep as the stock 950 coil, and does better in the iron trash. My two bits.

David,

Glad to see you are using it. I could not give it the time it deserved so I am happy someone else is. Hombre is correct...the
G.E.B/S.A.T. mode with tone id and the 5.3 coil is a killer combo in trash. Plus you can sweep a lot slower and take your time. Just listen to the tone and then watch the needle for a slight rise. Sometimes the deeper targets will not make the needle move very much but the tone will change. Experiment on some deep targets to get an idea what the machine is telling you.

Have you used the big coil at all yet ?

I've been running the 8" coil and just experimenting with different types of hunting.I just got permisson to hunt an area where the union army was removing railroad track to repair the main line from Nashville to Chattanooga(10k troops).Found a three ringer and lots of iron in a two hour hunt. This is where I'll try the 15" coil when we get some rain.Hit a TVA beach(they lower the water for the winter) and found a silver toe ring(open) and a bobby pin at 4"(so I know it'll find small gold).Did a yard and found bucoos of clad,a 43 quarter and a 51 rosie(this is where the tid really shines).Basicly I'm just having a blast! I did try the geb sat and it did work as promised, but the places I've been hunting are pretty clean so I just went back to geb disc.Happy hunting...DBULL

I went back to the railroad site this morning and dug eight bullets and poker chip in a fairly small area. The ground was still pretty damp and easy to dig so I'll probably strap the fifteen incher on and hit it again this weekend.Hopefully I'll spend as much time digging as I do swinging! That suckers heavy.Theres bound to be some buttons/coins deeper.DBULL
