Coins, etc.

I finally broke into George V. One Cent, 1934. The back was in great shape, but the front...you can only see him if you wet it.

I also got a 1943 George VI silver dime.

Other finds was a bubble gum necklace and a Made in England toy jeep. The underside reads: Dinky Toys, Meccano LTD. Austin Mini Moke Made in England.
Unfortunately it was wrecked, the rear axle is bent to heck and back and the hood is gone, along with the front right fender. Forgot to take pics. Will add later.

Silver Sterling Ring. Very thin, ladies or teen ring. Bent all out of shape. The front is cut to reflect light, making it *LOOK* like there is gems. Inside it says "Sterling"

And the best find of the day. A real honest to God relic. A pendant/pin that has the letters WCTU on it. WCTU stands for Women's Christian Temperance Union. It has the Maple leaf so it's the Canadian Branch. On 25 October 1875. The first Women's Christian Temperance Union in Toronto organized. By 1877 the Ontario Provincial Union was established, consisting of the local Ontario unions. And had been introduced in British Columbia in 1883.
I have no idea how old the pendant/pin is, but its pretty good manufacturing. So probably in the 1940's or later.

All in all I think I had a AWESOME day! Even if I did dig 28 pennies. So now my lower back feels awful!! :stretcher:

Penny there penny here it all adds up.
Nice silver dime find and pendant both oldies.
Silver ring is a good find also. Congrats on
the good day's outing.

If you read some of the stories, they are quite fasenating. There were cases where women actually went into the men's saloons (a reall :nono:) and dragged their husbands out then shut them down..

Congrats on George V find.

Keep them coming!!!!!!

I used to find nice stuff like that:thumbup:.......before I fried my motherboard

Nice finds. What part of the city did you find the Temperance pin? Is this like an old park in your city? What's the history of the part to have such woman roaming around? Do you think it was from a rally?

Congrats on George V find.

Keep them coming!!!!!!

They also busted up quite a number of bars. Look up Carrie Nation, she was a terror! She often wielded a hatchet on her raids. The champion John Sullivan fled from her when she raided a bar he was in.

He wasn't a wimp either. Link for Info on Sully But I'm quite sure he was familiar with the rope skipping rhyme at the time.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one.

Angry woman + Hatchet = Flee

Most WCTU members were Methodists. And yes an old area. The WCTU was established in this part of Canada in 1883.
