Back to the old farm location (see my 3/08/10 post)

I went back to the farm I detected on 3/7 and had a blast. Nothing earth-shattering, but enough targets to keep it interesting.
Canadian large cent 1859 (1st year of Dominion coinage)
Large cent 1832
Another 2 cent pc 1865
Merc 1917s
Small sterling ring
Few buttons plus other artifact

A new foundation had been put in so the sight is not for much longer.

On Sunday a buddy of mine called. He was at 1700's house and had found a 1942 Walker so I buzzed over. The best thing I found was the sterling race horse pin.
It's a beautiful piece with tons of red and clear stones set in (alot of work went into it). Anybody have an idea as to vintage? (it was about 6 inches down). I also found about ten wheaties including a 1910. He wound up with the Walker, a silver Rosie, about 20 wheaties and an 1802 large cent.

Some really nice finds! That horse pin is especially nice. I would guess it to be from the 1930s-40s but I could be really far off. It looks like there some sort of marking on the backside after "sterling". Could that be the maker's mark? It's really a nice piece and very well made. I would guess the maker to be Trifari but that's just a guess. Try goggling vintage jewelry with racehorse. Maybe something will turn up. HH

Thanks TokenDigger,
The mark on the tail after sterling looks like a "U" with an arrow on each side pointing to it.

That mark may help identify the maker. I did a quick search on Google and found an arrow going through a U and it was for Uncas Manufacturing Co. who used this mark from 1920-1988. I don't think it is the same as the mark on your pin though. You may want to look around on Google using works like vintage costume jewelry, jewelry marks and sterling. You may find the maker. HH
